Chantier de la Place aux Foires
The Place aux Foires, an iconic location in our city, is set to undergo a transformation! A project aimed at sustainably revamping the square: a covered hall, redesigned spaces, improved accessibility… and a new dynamic of activities. Shops will remain open during the construction.

Start of construction: Monday, April 14.
Monday Market: Starting May 5, it will be relocated to the bottom of Boulevard du Midi, Perin parking lot, and part of the Carrefour Market parking (the area occupied by municipal parking spaces). Please consult the police order.
Main objective of the project: to transform and modernize the Place aux Foires to better articulate its various functions (Horeca, shops, market, festivities, housing, etc.).
Construction process: four phases are planned: the construction of a covered hall in the center with a transparent roof and photovoltaic panels, and the development of the surrounding areas of the square, from facade to facade, including the side roads.
What new look for the square? As a reminder, while the initial project only included the construction of a covered hall – a choice subject to citizen consultation in 2018 – it has since evolved. The decision to expand the scope to the entire square was made following the health crisis: access to two side roads had been restricted for vehicles to allow the Horeca sector to utilize public space more effectively.
This experience of partial pedestrianization was deemed positive by the Horeca sector, and the city's intention is to make the current configuration permanent, also developing the surroundings and side roads to create a cohesive and uniformly leveled area. The current traffic direction will be maintained, but the space will be shared and more secure for all users.
The two kiosks, the stage, and the fountain will be removed. Some parking spaces will be retained, as well as most of the planted trees. New trees will be replanted to recreate an alignment with those on the Monument alley.
What about the events usually held in the square during the construction? Contacts have already been made with the organizing committees of various events, including Foires en Fête and Charve establishments (bi-monthly market), for their relocation during the construction.
