'Les 3 Grâces' - Œuvre de Louis Noël (1995)
Discovery and recreation
Aglaé (brilliant), Thalie (verdant), and Euphrosyne (joy of the soul) are the 'welcoming hostesses' of the city, which aims to be both inviting and enchanting. In ancient times, these three Graces personified beauty, seduction, nature, human creativity, and fertility.
Louis NOËL was born in Jemelle in 1938. From a young age, his mother, who was blind, introduced him to all the ways of observing the world beyond sight. Self-taught, he does not align himself with any particular movement. He has tried everything, successfully. An artist of all challenges, he is a painter and sculptor, but primarily a sculptor. His sculptures demand physical strength, moral tension, concentration, and mastery of the material. In recent years, he has achieved mastery in his art. The works emerge from his fingers, from his hands as if by enchantment. Louis Noël found early on the style that suited him best. Thus, he has always favored the search for harmonious lines and shapes, without a real concern for detail. He prefers to suggest, to evoke dreams, rather than dwell on the superfluous. Equally comfortable with wood, stone, and bronze as with glass. Over time, his works have increasingly taken on monumental dimensions, yet he still works on smaller formats, shaping with equal sensitivity intimate pieces born from his moods, feelings, and encounters.
