Humain - Carrière Saint-Martin

Discovery and recreation

On the roadside, between Humain and Aye, lies the former Saint-Martin quarry of gray and red marble, which was opened in 1732 and abandoned in 1980 (private property). While agriculture was the main resource for the inhabitants of Humain, marble extraction was also significant. It was the Abbey of Saint-Hubert that operated it until 1760; this marble was primarily used for the decoration of the church and the construction of the Abbey Palace of Saint-Hubert.
