The castle was the residence of the lords of Jemeppe, the first known being Jean Dochain (1280), until the annexation to France and the end of the Ancien Régime. Originally, the castle consisted solely of the square keep built in the 13th century, standing 23 meters high. Constructed for both habitation and defense (during the struggles between the Namur and Luxembourg dynasties), it remained the property of the Dochain family until 1616. Then, during the 17th century under the Ans family, three wings were added to form the quadrilateral currently visible. A farm was also built during this century. Left abandoned during the 20th century, the site was fortunately purchased, fully restored, and transformed into a high-end seminar center with B&B and restaurant.
