Panorama de l'ancien presbytère

Discovery and recreation

Enjoy the stunning view of the village of On and the Famenne valley (on your left), a picturesque landscape of rolling hills and ridges, mosaics of pastures, deciduous woods, and coniferous clusters. The old presbytery (no. 21) is dated 1774 by a stone placed at the top of the door. If the walls could talk, they would tell you a rather dark story. Indeed, under French occupation, the region was struck by abuses and mandatory conscription. Gradually, the churches were closed. The priest of Hargimont, Arnold Lombart, faced several threats but refused to yield. The presbytery was set on fire in March 1804, and the 80-year-old abbot perished in the flames... Rebuilt in 1830, the presbytery was again damaged during the Ardennes offensive, then restored between 1961 and 1963. A little further along, notice on your left the small grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, dating from the second half of the 19th century.
