Site naturel du Fond des Vaulx
Discovery and recreation
Just a stone's throw from the city center, the small, wild valley of Fond des Vaulx, covering approximately 15 hectares, offers a landscape that contrasts with the expanse of the Marche plain. It is part of the limestone fringe known as Calestienne, shaped over millions of years by the acidic waters of the Ardennes massif to the south. Numerous legends are associated with this site filled with mysteries... Three marked trails ranging from 2.2 to 4.4 km allow you to discover, among other things, several caves (Grotte de la Ducasse, Trou du Renard, ...), a chasm called Trotti aux Fosses (a unique curiosity in Belgium classified as a Subterranean Cavity of Scientific Interest), singing stones, and rock faces (Plate Pierre, ...). Here, the fauna, flora, and geology are accessible to all nature enthusiasts. A covered barbecue area and a Hébert course are available for walkers and sports enthusiasts. It is worth noting that the site is included in a Life Hélianthème project aimed at restoring the limestone grasslands, which represent one of the richest ecosystems in Wallonia. The green lung of Marche will thus regain its former appearance while diversifying its remarkable natural heritage and maintaining its landscape coherence.
