GRP 577 - Tour de la Famenne - A la découverte du Géopark Famenne-Ardenne
Route
Initiated in 1978, the GR 577, known as the "Tour de la Famenne," has evolved over time. In anticipation of this fourth edition, it has expanded beautifully to reach a total of 197 km (excluding variants and connections). Like other major regional loops, it becomes a GR de Pays (or GRP) and is marked in yellow and red.
The route of the GRP 577 invites hikers to explore the UNESCO Global Geopark Famenne-Ardenne and its extraordinary geological potential, within a territory shaped by three undeniably attractive rivers: the Lesse, the Lomme, and the Ourthe. The vast Famenne depression, oriented roughly east-west, stretches from Durbuy to the Meuse near Givet. It is bordered to the north by the Condroz and by the Ardennes to the south. In detail, the Famenne can be subdivided into two distinct geomorphological units, the schist Famenne and the limestone Famenne (or Calestienne), which corresponds to a well-visible limestone step in the landscape.
We wish you an enjoyable and enriching discovery!
